Employability Skills Lead, Emotional Literacy Support Assistant Trained, Sport & Health Specialist

The mantra of Masters Rugby League reminds us, "You don't stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing", and this has never been truer for me over the past 12 months. I embrace the fact I was born in the historic year of 1966 as it has blessed me with a lifetime of experiences to share, knowledge to impart and the communication skills to facilitate. I have taken the educational ball in both hands and thoroughly enjoyed my first 12 months with Falcons Learning.

With over 35 years working in heavy industry, I have a number of skills and experiences suited to my multifaceted role, with NEBOSH Certification to support my safety responsibilities and decades of creating and presenting industrial product training to enhance my teaching. Years of high-level negotiation, honing non-verbal communication and good listening skills coupled with guiding my own children through their teenage years have given me a solid grounding for my Emotional Literacy Support Assistant role and a lifelong interest in engineering, from technical Lego to classic car ownership makes me a useful partner for our Motor Vehicle Workshop Manager.

Always a keen sportsman but without any natural flair I have long believed in the power of teamwork, "doing the hard yards" and "it's the work you put in when no-ones watching that makes the difference on the day", and hope that my example continues to offer a positive direction for our Falcons learners.

SENCo, Looked After Child Co-Ordinator, Designated Safeguarding Lead, Exams Officer

I feel privileged to have joined Falcons Learning, an organisation that I have worked with since its inception. Falcons has developed beyond recognition and I am excited to be part of the journey moving forwards in a school which is inclusive, and gives students the opportunity to succeed and flourish. I am child-centred in my approach, supportive and recognize and respect that we are all different, something which should be celebrated.

I have worked in the field of special needs and education for 30 years including roles for various national children and SEN charities. I come from a family of teachers and completed my PGCE before taking up a position in a mainstream school in East Yorkshire where alongside teaching science, I had various roles including leading on Pastoral Care and Safeguarding. I had worked in mainstream education for 15 years before my passion for inclusion led me to Alternative Provision and Special Education.

During my time working as a Senior Leader in Alternative Provision I worked with a range of other schools and alternative provisions. This allowed me to ensure every young person had the opportunity to access a curriculum which met their needs and aspirations.

I have extensive experience working with the most vulnerable people throughout our region and am passionate about safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all members of our community.

I firmly believe that as educators we play a vital role in supporting the development of young people in all areas of life and in creating lifelong learners who are equipped with the character and skills to respond to a changing world.

I am privileged to work as part of a fantastic team at Falcons Learning including staff, parents, carers, outside professionals and specialist practitioners to ensure we have a holistic approach to each young person within our school, ensuring all students have access to a wide, rich set of experiences.

I believe in setting high expectations for all our learners and am committed to help young people address the underlying barriers that prevent them from participating fully in education.

There is nothing our students can’t achieve.
